چکیده
Students from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) are currently in the process of building a fully functional microsatellite named 'Pratham', which is slated for launch by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in the fourth quarter of 2010. The satellite being built is a 260 mm cube and weighs nearly 10kg. This landmark project has completed the phases of Requirements Capture, Conceptual Design, and Preliminary Design and is currently in the Detailed Design Phase. Detailed documentation and thorough reviews were conducted by ISRO scientists and IITB faculty before the conclusion of each of the above Design phases. The goal of the satellite project is to educate students in the field of Satellite and Space Technology in the process of building a satellite for measuring the Total Electron Count (TEC) of the Ionosphere. This paper will discuss the technique being used by Pratham for measurement of TEC with 99.9% accuracy using the principle of Faraday rotation. This method has helped in reducing the cost of the ground station as well as the onboard complexity. The satellite will enable the generation of TEC maps of India and France with the help of

Observation of vertical electron density profile in inospheric E-layer during Indian-Ocean earthquake on December 2004 using CHAMP satellite
This paper describes the observation and analysis of vertical electron density before major earthquake above the Sumatra-Malaysia region during Indian Ocean major earthquake in 2004 in Aceh, Sumatra. The electron density profile in E-layer of ionosphere a few days before earthquake and a few hours after earthquake have been observed using the data from the CHAMP satellite. The data obtained fro...

This paper reports on the progress for the first development of rocket probe for in-situ measurement of ionospheric plasma parameters in Iran. The designed probe known as Plasma Impedance Probe (PIP) will be used to measure the electron density, electron-neutral collision frequency, background magnetic field, and temperature in the mesospheric and in the altitude range of 70 km to 150 km. This ...

Measurements of the dual frequency Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers can be used to calculate the electron density and the total electron content (TEC) of the ionosphere layer of the Earth atmosphere. TEC is a key parameter for investigating the ongoing spatial and temporal physical process of the ionosphere. For accurate estimation of TEC from GPS measurements, GPS satellites and GPS r...

Global positioning system (GPS) measurements provide accurate and continuous 3-dimensional position, velocity and time data anywhere on or above the surface of the earth, anytime, and in all weather conditions. However, the predominant ranging error source for GPS signals is an ionospheric error. The ionosphere is the region of the atmosphere from about 60 km to more than 1500 km above the eart...
